Located in Wusi Farm,
Shanghai Binhai(Seaside) Cemetery serves best as the final resting place
for the dead with the broad East China Sea in front and the bustling city
proper of Shanghai behind. Just as leaves will inevitably fall down to
the garden, the dead needs an ideal place for the living to express their
profound condolence. The ultimate purpose of Shanghai Binhai(Seaside)
Cemetery is just to satisfy such needs.
In the early 1980's, Shanghai Municipal Government
adopted some congressmen's proposal that Shanghai should set up its own
cemetery in the countryside to convenience its citizens to bury the ashes
of the dead. In March, 1985, Shanghai Binhai(Seaside) Cemetery was established
as the first state-owned cemetery jointly set up by Funeral &interment
Department of Shanghai Civil Administration, Shanghai Agricultural, Industrial,
Commercial Afforest Corporation, and Wusi Farm.
Shanghai Binhai(Seaside) Cemetery covers an area
of 700 mu. Its blueprint is both creative in planning and ambitious in
goals. Under the direct leadership of Shanghai Civil Administration and
with so many years great efforts, Shanghai Binhai(Seaside) Cemetery has
been built into a first-rate public cemetery featuring as a unique combination
of the Southern China's architectural style with rural scenery. |
