¡¡Situated at the middle part of the Park, it has a land area of 8.7 hectares. With the contributions of the leaders of Central Government and Shanghai Municipal Government as well as people of all circles of the society, this Commemorative Tree-planting Garden has been built and grown into a tall, thick, luxuriantly green and spectacular garden. In Mar. 1986, Party Secretary-General Jiang Zemin, who was the Mayor of Shanghai then, led the leaders of Shanghai Municipal Government to plant trees here, and took a brush and wrote an inscription ¡°Green Shanghai and bring benefit to the people¡±. On Nov. 22, 1986, Comrade Hu Yaobang, who was Party Secretary-General then, personally planted three white Yulan trees. Over the years, thousands of people from all circles of the society and overseas friends have been here to plant trees. In Oct. 1998, a monument was set up at the tree-planting commemorating place, and a grand monument-uncovering ceremony was held on the 1999 tree-planting day to extend the gratitude to the planters.
